Why It’s Time To Collect Moments Not Things PLUS Enter To Win $1000

I have a friend who only buys experiences for her friends and family. She’s ditched the idea of giving gifts in exchange for experiences which, unlike material stuff, last a lifetime. This got me thinking about how important these moments are in our lives. And more importantly, how often we don’t take time out to make them happen.

I’m always racing around at breakneck speed trying to cram too much into my already over-scheduled life and forgetting to make time for the little things in life – the important things. Can you relate? It’s all too easy to fall into this trap. We’re so busy striving to have bigger, better everything at the expense of enjoying the little things – the stuff that really makes us happy.

So with this in mind, I’ve decided to make a real effort to incorporate things that matter into my daily life – not stuff. And when I say things I mean little things. Things like lighting a candle, taking a leisurely stroll with my dog, brewing a delicious pot of tea, reading inspiring quotes and actually taking the time to think about what they mean. We need to remember that happiness isn’t measured by a substantial bank account, a perfect house or a killer wardrobe. While they may all be great, at the end of the day it’s all just stuff! I know it’s a cliche but I truly believe that the best things in life are free. Watching the sunset, a warm hug and laughing until you can’t breathe are a few of my faves. What are yours?

The peeps at Palmolive are encouraging us to all enjoy more moments too and to make those small moments more mindful and beautiful. They’re even giving away $1000 to the person who posts their best #moisturisermoment (more deets on that below). I’ve started incorporating the gorgeous new Palmolive Oil Infusions Body Moisturiser into my day as part of my #moisturisermoment morning ritual. I rarely take the time to moisturise my body but for the past few weeks I’ve been lighting a fragrant candle and taking a few extra minutes after my shower to moisturise my entire body. It’s a great way to set up my mind and body for a busy day ahead and it’s surprising what a difference taking a moment out to breathe can make.

So when’s the last time you took a moment out to yourself? I’ll bet for many of you, you can’t even remember when that was. I’d be dreaming if I thought I could take large chunks of time to centre myself and reconnect with what is truly important to me, but I can definitely steal moments of time that will put me on a path to happiness. After all, you don’t need suitcases and expensive storage units to carry precious memories. There are no taxes on moments and the best part is they stay with you for a lifetime – unlike that new designer outfit – eeek!

So what is it that really makes you happy? Are you taking enough time out to smell the roses or is life just whizzing you by?

Taking time to enjoy life, creating memories and collecting moments, not things, means enjoying what you have and who you have in your life. Dr. Thomas Gilovich, a psychology professor at Cornell University who has been studying happiness for over two decades sums it up brilliantly when he says:

‘You can really like your material stuff. You can even think that part of your identity is connected to those things, but nonetheless they remain separate from you. In contrast, your experiences really are part of you. We are the sum total of our experiences. We consume experiences directly with other people. And after they’re gone, they’re part of the stories that we tell to one another.’

The new Palmolive Oil Infusions range is enriched with an infusion of essential oils and botanical extracts including avocado oil, jojoba oil, jasmine extract, macadamia oil, rose oil and citrus oils.

The new formulas are designed to moisturise and rejuvenate your skin without leaving it feeling greasy. My favourite product is the Oil Infusions Rose with Macadamia Oil Body Moisturiser. I’m using it every morning after my shower – it’s one of the ways I’m taking time to smell the roses (even if it is only in my moisturiser)!

Palmolive Oil Infusions would love for you to share your own moisturiser moment by uploading a ‘public’ photo to Instagram capturing how you take a moment to moisturise and give back to your skin and senses using the hashtags #moisturisermoment and #palmoliveoilinfusions and tagging @palmoliveanz. By uploading a photo you agree to the T&C’s of the comp

A top prize of $1,000 cash will be awarded to the most creative entry, while 110 runner-up prizes – including a limited edition Palmolive Oil Infusions bathroom caddy (see below) – is also on offer. Check out Palmolive Australia and New Zealand Facebook and Instagram to find out more.
