Oxygen – It’s New Zealand’s Newest Natural Skincare Range

Eighteen years in organic farming led Nelson-based Alana Riley to develop and produce a very special all-natural skincare range. It all started when Alana developed a soothing natural moisturiser for a family member with breast cancer. The cream was such a triumph she decided to create an entire range and in 2009 she launched Oxygen Skincare.

Oxygen skincare products contain only natural ingredients found in plants and essential oils. The ingredients benefit your inner health as well as your outer beauty and the aromas of the essential oils are therapeutic and emotionally rebalancing (they smell divine).

I recently attended the media launch of Oxygen Skincare and asked mother-of-three Alana about her exciting journey into natural skincare.

Why did you start Oxygen?
I was having a conversation with my best mate on the beach in Kaiteriteri and we were discussing the amount of chemicals in skincare products and I just decided then that I was going to make a cream for my sister-in-law-Maria whom was in her third stage of breast cancer. Also after doing further research I discovered that there was nothing designed specifically for teenagers in New Zealand that was natural and not harmful to their skins. Teens is a big passion driver for me I love going into the schools and helping them develop personally. I still do this here in Nelson and will continue to teach personal presentation to teens I love it. I love to empower young people they have so much ahead of them and I want to be a positive influence in their development.

Three words to describe Oxygen?
Simple, natural, beauty.

What’s your personal skincare philosophy?
If it hurts when you apply it STOP. No skincare should hurt, sting or burn your skin.

Why did you launch a Teen range?
Because teens needed a good healthy skincare range that works and doesn’t damage their skin. Also because it’s important that a teen feels confident with themselves. If their skin is okay that’s one confidence knocker out the way.

What makes Oxygen different to other natural skincare products on the market?
My Teen Range and the fact that I work with teens in developing good personal hygiene habits. I’m not just about selling teens a cream and then leaving them to it. We run workshops where we go into schools to help teens manage their skincare. I’m also a mentor in the” Big Brother Big Sister programme”.

Your all-time favourite Oxygen product?
Women’s Exfoliator Cleanser because I used to have bad pigmentation and it’s the only product I have ever used that keeps it heavily reduced. Other than that it would be the Teens’ Problem Skin range because I’ve seen the awesome results it has on acne and it’s so great to see teens getting results and feeling great about their skin. It’s one less thing they have to worry about in their young adult years.

The most popular Oxygen skincare product?
The Teen problem skin range and in New Zealand it’s the women’s Hand & Body and the Women’s Crème Cleanser

Any new products we can expect to see in the future?
Yep we are going to produce a body exfoliator and a new high powered intensive oil treatment.
