Is Micellar Water Your New Beauty Must-Have?

One of the most talked about products in the beauty world right now is Micellar cleansing water so when a bottle arrived at Style Insider HQ I couldn’t wait to put it through its paces. I’d read all the hype about Micellar waters and how they remove your makeup, cleanse and tone all at the same time – without even needing to rinse, but the skeptic in me thought they sounded to good to be true. Besides up until now these products had only been available from the luxury brands so when they hit the supermarkets I had to find out what all the hype was about.

So armed with a bottle of Garnier’s Micellar Cleansing Water and a face full of makeup I began to put it through its paces. At only $12.99 it’s definitely an affordable everyday option and for all those beauty duties on the run. Oh and the lazy girl in me loved the idea that this product could cut down the time I spend on my daily skincare regime.

Garnier’s Micellar Cleansing Water is designed to be poured onto a cotton pad and gently wiped across your skin to remove your makeup. It can also be used on your eyes and lips without causing any irritation and is also fine for sensitive skin.

I started by pouring a fair amount of it on to a cotton pad and simply wiped it across my face. The product quickly and easily dissolved away my makeup and left my skin feeling clean, fresh and hydrated. I must say it felt strange not washing my face afterwards but I’m sure that’s more because of habit than anything else.

The 400ml bottle says there is enough product for 200 uses but probably not the way I use it. I’m always fairly heavy-handed when it comes to beauty products so I’m sure it wouldn’t stretch quite this far for me. I also used a fresh cotton pad to repeat the process once I’d removed all of my makeup. While this step isn’t actually necessary it kind of just felt like the right thing to do. Perhaps the more I use the product the less I’ll feel inclined to include this final step.

To show you how well the product works I swatched my favourite bright red lipstick on my arm and with a single stroke wiped a small amount of the product across half of the lipstick and as you can see it did a great job of removing it.

While this product may be new and exciting for us, French women have been using it for years. It was originally created in the ’90s to help Parisian women deal with the region’s notoriously harsh water. It was only when makeup-artists and models started raving about it that these affordable no-rinse formulas were created.

Given that Garnier’s Micellar Cleansing Water delivered on the hype I’ll bet it won’t take long before it becomes a cult classic.

Take note party girls, lazy girls and busy bees – this product is for YOU!
