It seems there’s no stopping our favourite health-foodie sisters Julia & Libby. With the recent release of their gorgeous new cookbook and a website that continues to inspire, this dynamic duo have just added another string to their already rather large bow. The talented sisters are currently starring in a fun new campaign for Aussie fashion giant Cotton On Body and to celebrate we’re giving you the chance to win $200 to spend at Cotton On Body
 
We recently caught up with the sisters to find out a little bit more about what makes them tick and the girls have also shared their famous Green Goddess Smoothie and Peanut Butter Fudge recipes with us too. So scroll down to take a look and don’t forget to enter to win your very own Cotton On Body shopping spree.

What’s it like working with your sister?
J – We have amazing times and then there are times we get sick of each other and won’t speak for a day of two. It’s just like any other sibling relationship – if we do get annoyed with each other we know it’s not going to be forever. I love that we can be honest and tell each other things that we would never tell anyone else. It has its challenges but I really wouldn’t have it any other way.
 
L – I really enjoy working with Julia – we have our moments but what sisters don’t? It’s been great to have built a brand with her and to now be working on it full time is a dream come true. We do a lot of travel so it’s a lot of fun being able to see different parts of the world alongside your sister.
 
How do you stay fit?
J – I have a personal trainer who helps keep me motivated otherwise I slack off in the gym. I love walking my dogs to the beach, that is my “me time”. And yoga is great to help with anxiety and to forget about the stresses of the day/week.
 
L – I’m lucky enough to have an amazing trainer who I workout with 2-3 times a week. I get bored easily with exercise so he always makes training heaps of fun. I aim to go to the gym 5 times a week even if it’s just for a quick 30-minute workout. I have so much more energy and it puts me in the best mood.

Tell us about a woman who inspires you?
J – There is no one specific woman – I would have to say all of my girlfriends. Some of my best friends I have known since I was 11, so nearly 20 years, and they are all doing
amazing things and push me to be a better person. We have our own girl gang and all support each other. I am very lucky in that sense.
 
L – I recently went and saw Oprah Winfrey when she came to Auckland. She is someone who I grew up watching on TV so when I found out she was having an event here I had to go. She spoke about empowerment and how you can have anything you want through the power of positive thought. She is such an inspiration and one of the most successful women in the world that created her own success from nothing.
 
What is your go-to post-workout meal?
J – I like something quick and easy so for me that is a smoothie. Loads of greens, frozen banana, avocado, dates, protein powder and I try to add in as many powders so that the sweetness can mask the swamp like taste! If I am prepared I will have soaked some oats and have these after a workout, add in some fruit. One of the cheapest meals! Who said healthy eating has to be expensive?
 
L – A café down the road from me makes the best protein smoothie with rice milk, frozen banana, vanilla protein and cacao. As soon as I leave the gym I grab one of them, it’s like drinking dessert. I also love an omelette after a workout; I mix 3 eggs, almond milk, red onion, a sprinkling of cheese and avocado. Anything that is high in protein is great to have as a post-workout meal.
 
Favourite new food discovery?
J – We recently worked on a project with a NZ brand and they supply freekah – it’s the new quinoa apparently. I had heard of it but never used it before and now it’s a staple in my kitchen. So easy to cook with and not too expensive. Matcha is also something I have been drinking, oh and bone broth, so good for you and perfect now that it’s winter.
 
L – Acai! I recently tried out an authentic acai bowl from a brand called Riversea that import acai to New Zealand from Brazil. Acari bowls are so good to have for breakfast or as a snack, simply blend up some acai, add a tiny bit of guarana then sprinkle with muesli, banana and yoghurt.

Describe your style?
J – Without sounding like a dag I would say comfort. I prefer to wear loose clothing made from cotton, silk, denim or wool. When I’m at home I’ll be in tracksuit pants, a jumper and my uggs. I own far too much activewear but when you want to pop up to the supermarket the convenience of throwing on leggings, a tank and a jumper is too easy. On a night out with the girls (which is a rarity!) it’s always fun to put on a dress and heels.
 
L – My style is relaxed and casual. I definitely dress for comfort hence why I have a ridiculous amount of sneakers as opposed to high heels in my wardrobe. Because I work from home I’m always in activewear, which is why I loved shooting for Cotton on Body because their entire range is exactly what I wear each day. If I’m going out you will find me in some black skinny jeans, heels, a floaty top and a statement bag.
 

What would be your typical morning routine?

J – Walk my dogs, yoga or the gym with my trainer, breakfast and then spend the rest of the time cleaning the house or on emails. Every single day is different for me!

L – I always make sure I have a big nourishing breakfast to fuel me for the day, then I check my emails and do any blog work that I need to complete. I usually have some meetings and always try and make time for a gym workout.
 
What is your current obsession?
J – Finding new apps that help make my life easier so I have more time to do the things I love.
 
L – Walking. I didn’t get my license until I was 24 (I know, so old right?) and I would walk everywhere. Now that I drive I never walk anywhere unless it’s on the treadmill at the gym if that even counts. Lately I have made it a goal of mine to get out and walk! It’s the best thing to do to clear your mind and get in some low intensity exercise in the sunshine.

GREEN GODDESS SMOOTHIE

 Ingredients

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 small pear
  • 1 cup baby spinach
  • ½ avocado
  • 1 tbsp sunflower seeds
  • 1 cup coconut water (or water)
  • 3 ice cubes
Peel banana and cut into chunks. Core pear and cut into quarters, leaving the skin on. Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until creamy and smooth. Add more water if desired.
 
 

PEANUT BUTTER FUDGE

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups peanut butter
  • 1/3 cup rice malt syrup
  • 1/2 cup coconut oil, melted
Add all ingredients into a blender or food processor and blend on low until everything is combined. Mixture should be quite runny so add more melted coconut oil if need be. Transfer mixture into a lined baking dish and pop into the fridge. Fudge should be set in a few hours. Take out of dish and cut into small pieces. Store the fudge in the freezer (this keeps it nice and chewy).
