MAD-MEN-MAKE-UP

Makeup is taking its lead from an era when red lipstick, liquid liner and a great set of curlers were a girl’s best friends. The look is straight from the set of Mad Men – iconic ’60s glam.

If, like me, you’re a newbie to the show then you can check it out on Lightbox – New Zealand’s new online television viewing platform. I’ve been propping myself up in bed at night and tuning in – bliss. The show’s great and watching ad-free TV when I like and how I like is a dream come true.

Mad Men-inspired makeup is not only stunning but bang-on-trend right now so it’s time to channel our favourite Mad Men vixen and get a little ’60s glam. mad1

1. Foundation The key to bombshell beauty is flawless foundation. You’ll need to arm yourself with a good finishing powder to set your look and create a perfect matte finish.

2. Eyes Perfectly primped peepers are a must when it comes to pulling off this look. Stick with neutral shadows and add drama by applying a gel liner along your top lash line. If you’re a little shaky when it comes to liquid liner then take a look at Lauren Conrad’s super-simple cat eye tutorial below.

3. Lashes Faux lashes will seal the deal on this look. Each character on the show has perfect lashes – even housewife Betty Draper. Strip lashes are the easiest to apply and if you need a little crash course then take a look at our guide to applying faux lashes like a pro.

4. Brows While brows don’t steal the show when it comes to Mad Men makeup they do need to be well groomed and perfectly defined with a pencil or brow powder.

5. Lips It’s time to replace your glosses and sheer or shimmer lipsticks with matte reds, bright pinks and corals to create a retro look.
