My Hand Rejuvenation (Part 1)

I’ve always invested in good quality skincare and religiously applied sunscreen to my face but if I’m honest I’ve neglected my poor hands and it shows. The veins in my hands have always been visible but over the past few years they’ve become far more prominent as the skin has thinned out.  So when I was offered the chance to try a new treatment to restore some of the lost volume in the skin on the back of my hands I jumped at the chance.

Auckland cosmetic nurse Kelly Post who recently filled my lips offered to rejuvenate my hands using a volumising filler called Radiesse. Radiesse is a gel like product that contains “microspheres of calcium” which stimulate the production of your own collagen. Over time the skin on the back of my hands has got thiner allowing my veins and tendons to become really noticeable. I also have a load of sun damage on the back of my hands so plumping them up and reducing the appearance of the veins and tendons is the first step in rejuvenating them.

Take a look at the short video below to see what happened when I underwent a ‘hand lift’.

The results of the treatment were immediate. Straight away my hands looked smoother and the veins and tendons were much less visible. I didn’t get any bruising at all but they were a little tender for a day or so after the treatment. The procedure took about 30 minutes and would have set me back $990. I’m thrilled with the result and actually don’t remember my hands ever looking this smooth. Now I can’t wait for stage two which will involve some form of laser or IPL to remove the sun damage and pigmentation.

THE FACTS

What: Radiesse Volumising Filler. Radiesse is a volumising injectable dermal filler that restores volume and adds structure to the skin. Treatments typically take around 30 minutes and results are instant and can last up to two years. Radiesse is broken down by the body and naturally metabolised over time.

Cost: $750 for one syringe or $990 for two (my hands needed two)
