If there was a single pill that could help us look better and have truck loads more energy would you want to know more? Of course you would right? Well this month an exciting new pill is arriving in New Zealand that’s set to change the anti-ageing game forever. While most of us have been madly searching for that elusive fountain of youth scientists have been beavering away behind the scenes developing a supplement that is being hailed as an anti-ageing game-changer. It’s called Tru Niagen and in simple terms it’s a unique form of vitamin B3 that’s been proven to boost our NAD which in case you didn’t know (I didn’t) is one of the most important factors in healthy ageing. Our body naturally produces NAD which is simply explained as a molecule found in all living cells and one that our body needs and uses every day. But here’s the rub – our natural levels of NAD reduce significantly as we age – especially from 40 onwards. If we restore our NAD levels we can expect to feel more energetic, sleep better, maintain our muscle mass and because it impacts every cell in our body, maintaining NAD levels does what no cosmetic treatment can do – support our skin health at a cellular level. I was recently sent a bottle of Tru Niagen to trial and wanted to find out for myself if it lived up to the hype. 

When it comes to supplements I’m possibly one of the biggest critics you’ll ever meet. It’s not that I don’t believe in the health claims – it’s just I’ve always thought eating a balanced diet, exercising and looking after yourself should be enough. But what really sparked my interest in Tru Niagen is that it’s the first supplement of its kind EVER to be released. Yep there’s nothing on the market like it. So of course I was intrigued. Now I’m smart enough to know there is no one magic bullet to slowing down the hands of time but I believe a wholistic approach to living a healthy life is where it’s at. Each small decision we make adds to our overall health. So with that in mind I decided to include Tru Niagen into my daily regime to see if it made any difference to how I’m looking and feeling and most importantly to see if it lived up to the hype.

Tru Niagen is basically a supplement that has been specifically designed to help us age better. We lose up to fifty per cent of our NAD (or nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) levels between the ages of 40 and 60 and when these levels are low our cells can’t produce the energy the need to maintain our health as we age. So basically as we age our cells become increasingly challenged to perform their normal functions and Tru Niagen boosts those levels and in turn gives us the best chance for our body to age healthily. If we restore our NAD levels we can expect:

  • increased energy
  • better muscle recovery after working out
  • increased ability for our body to maintain our muscle
  • better sleep
  • supports skin and hair health

Scientists have also revealed that NAD isn’t a constant in our bodies. Things like overeating, staying in the sun too long and drinking alcohol can stress our system and cause NAD to decline. So because our body needs NAD to repair itself – at every level – it seems replacing and maintaining these levels is key and that’s what’s Tru Niagen has been designed to do. 


It’s obviously early days for me taking Tru Niagen but I can definitely already notice an improvement in my focus and mental clarity. I often find myself feeling really foggy-headed and easily distracted – especially by mid afternoon and I’ve definitely noticed this feeling significantly reduced. My energy levels seem a little higher too but I’m about to put them to the test as next week I’m starting a new 18-week fitness challenge so I’ll definitely be needing that extra energy and muscle recovery – not to mention muscle retention – I don’t want to be losing any new muscle that I’ll be building.
