FASHION WEEK COMES TO DUNEDIN

Today marks the beginning of the 13th annual iD Dunedin fashion week. The spectacular fashion event includes a week of fashion shows, events, tours, public talks, and exhibitions, culminating in the must-see iD International Emerging Designer Awards on Thursday night and the iD Dunedin Fashion Shows on Friday and Saturday nights.

I’m thrilled to be heading down south this week to attend both the Emerging Designer Awards and the iD show on Friday night. It’s been a number of years since I’ve been down to Dunedin to the iD show and I’m super excited.

This year is set to be bigger and better than ever too with an international line up of guests including UK-based celebrity milliner, Stephen Jones, New Zealand luxury women’s designer Yvonne Bennetti, and a catalogue of New Zealand fashion icons, including NOM*d, Tanya Carlson, Mild-Red, Charmaine Reveley, Tamsin Cooper, DADA Vintage, Company of Strangers, MisteR, who will be showing their collections on the runway.

The official invite-only launch is being held tonight at The Otago Daily Times.

The iD Dunedin Fashion Week Hub is Dunedin’s Golden Centre Mall and the mall will host a range of activities throughout the week from guest and designer appearances,to seminars and runway shows

Hotel St Clair is hosting a Designer Breakfast Series from Tuesday March 12 to March 15 – four days of breakfasts, with presentations from unique Dunedin fashion identities.

Exhibitions include ‘Home Sewn’, a touring exhibition from the New Zealand Fashion Museum, held at the Dunedin Public Art Gallery, fine art exhibition ‘Fashion-Show’ at the Inge Doesburg Gallery and Studio on Castle St, a New Zealand Light Leathers fashion colours world premiere and the New Zealand Hat and Hair Art ‘Retrospective’ exhibition, celebrating a decade of ingenious originality in hat and hair art, held at Dunedin’s Temple Gallery.

This year’s iD Dunedin Fashion Shows on the 120m catwalk at Dunedin Railway Station feature an incredible retrospective collection by international guest, UK milliner Stephen Jones. To celebrate his 33 years in the industry, models will be wearing 33 Stephen Jones’ hats and will be dressed in much-loved Dunedin labels NOM*d and Carlson.

Stephen Jones’ presence at this year’s iD Fashion Shows continues the high standards set by previous iD international guest designers, Zandra Rhodes, Akira Isogawa, and Lutz Huelle. He will also join the prestigious iD International Emerging Designer judging panel, which this year includes Australian fashion authorities Associate Professor Karen Webster and Glynis Traill-Nash, alongside Dunedin’s own Tanya Carlson and Margi Robertson (NOM*d).

iD also welcomes New Zealand designer Yvonne Bennetti, who has dressed Kiwi stars such as Rachel Hunter and Lorraine Downes, joining iD’s tradition of showcasing high profile New Zealand fashion designers, which in the past has included Zambesi, Liz Mitchell, Francis Hooper of WORLD, Adrian Hailwood and Cybèle.
