Famous YouTube Beauty Guru Is Getting Sued

michelle-phan-embed The golden girl of online beauty videos has found herself in serious hot water after being accused of copyright infringement.

According to Ultra Records, Michelle Phan – whose beauty channel has more than 6.7 million subscribers – used songs from its artists in her videos without any authority.

The label wants Phan to pay up $150,000 for each instance of infringement (supposedly 50), plus an injunction to stop Phan using the songs in the future.

A spokesman for Phan recently told BBC News that the lawsuit “lacks any merit”. “Ultra agreed to allow Michelle to use the music and Michelle intends to fight this lawsuit and bring her own claims against Ultra,” he said.

“Michelle’s intention has always been to promote other artists, creating a platform for their work to be showcased to an international audience.”

Michelle started posting YouTube videos in 2007 and her Barbie Transformation Tutorial video has been viewed more than 55 million times.

We’re fascinated to see how this unfolds and we really hope it ends well for Michelle because we love her beauty tutorials.  What do you think?  Should Michelle pay up?

If you haven’t seen Michelle before you can take a look at her in action below.
