DIY Chalkboard serving platter

I found this clever craft idea on one of my favorite little lifestyle blogs www.witandwhistle.com and thought I’d share it with you in case you were at a loose end this rainy long weekend.

It’s a really simple, yet effective way to customise a piece of crockery. The Warehouse has a huge selection of plain white platters and containers that would be great for this project.

All you need is some porcelain Chalkboard Paint (click here to buy) and you are ready to go.

How to:
Apply the paint with a soft bristle brush. You will be able to see the brush strokes after the paint dries, so be careful and keep your strokes even. You may need to apply two thin coats of paint (allow the first coat to dry completely before applying the second). Let the paint dry for 24 hours. Then, bake your platter following the instructions printed on the back of the paint bottle. After baking turn off the oven and leave the platter inside until it has gradually cooled to room temperature. After you bake it the paint is dishwasher and microwave safe.
