3 Quick & Delicious Last Minute Party Snacks

By  |  0 Comments

As the party season approaches it’s always handy to have a few quick and easy (not to mention) delicious snacks up your sleeve for those times when friends arrive unexpectedly. For me, I have three favourites that are my go-tos because they’re easy to pull together and are always firm favourites with my friends.

So when the peeps at Hutchinsons sent me a selection of their tasty cheeses late last week I decided to create a few simple party snacks in time for the weekend. Take a look at a few of my cheesy faves below and scroll down to the bottom of the page to enter to win one of FIVE fab prize packs from Hutchinsons

Hutchinsons has been bringing some of the world’s best cheeses to New Zealand since 1914 and to celebrate the brand’s heritage they’ve repackaged their cheeses to reflect that fearless adventurous spirit in their brand character Hutch. Every expedition Hutch and his descendants all those years ago took to bring New Zealanders the best cheese has been catalogued and documented here for you to enjoy the romance and passion Hutchinsons has for cheese.

Below are three exciting NEW cheeses from Hutchinsons adding to their existing range.

Original Club Cheddar

A mild Cheddar aged for a minimum of three months with a subtle, buttery flavour and a distinctive creamy texture. Handcrafted using traditional farmhouse methods. It will melt in your mouth.

Sweet Chilli Club Cheddar

The contrast of smooth Cheddar tones with a gentle kick of sweet chilli adds that extra bit of zing. It’s handcrafted using traditional farmhouse methods, it is creamy and full of flavour.

Smoked Salmon Cream Cheese

This one caught my eye with its unique flavour. The combination of smoked salmon and cream cheese combines to create a delicious, smooth and savoury cream cheese. A little bit different but a very tasty combination.

These new Hutchinsons Cheeses are now available at your local New World and PakNSave supermarkets.

All other Hutchinsons Cheeses are available at all supermarkets; including Countdown.

  • Salt & pepper

Spread a dollop of pesto onto a pizza base with the back of a spoon and add wilted spinach and as as much grated cheese as you’d like.

Season with salt and pepper and sprinkle with chilli flakes and cook in a very hot oven until cheese has melted and pizza has started to crisp and brown.

There may be a trend for super-sized cheese platters dripping with everything imaginable but the reality is, if you start with a great tasting cheese you really need very little else. I usually have a few platter essentials in my cupboards in case of emergency (e.g. friends arriving unannounced). But if you don’t have a box of your favourite crackers at the ready then you can always drizzle olive oil on a few slices of bread and bake them in the oven for a couple of minutes and viola – you have quick and easy crackers.

I generally have nuts and dried fruit in my pantry so they are usually the first things to include on my platters. Remember less is often more when it comes to a cheese platter. You really don’t need a tonne of ingredients if you have one or two quality cheeses. I also try and treat my cheese platter in the same way I’d style an outfit. With an outfit I tend to pair tonal colours together and for a cheese platter I choose complimentary flavours. So these fresh apricots and natural almonds (below) are the perfect choice to accompany the Hutchinsons Apricot & Almond Cream Cheese.
