When I met Maybelline’s fabulous makeup guru Nigel Stanislaus on his recent trip to Auckland I asked if he would share his tips for getting the perfect smokey eye.
This is the smokey eye Nigel created for the Ksubi show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Australia this year.
Nigel says: “This look is all about the sexy black eyes – using dark shades right into the corners of the eyes with beautiful luminous skin and nothing on the lips.”
“The trick to any look is to start with clean, fresh skin. Use a brightening cleanser for a clear and even complexion and then apply a lightweight, sheer foundation. I use Maybelline New York Dream Nude Airfoam Foundation ($33.99)”
“Next, for a bold, dark look blend together Maybelline New York Eye Studio Color Tattoo eyeshadows in Audacious Asphalt and Bad to the Bronze ($13.99 each). To get the smokey effect you need to take the product right into the inner corners of the eyes so that they look deep set. Remember to blend to avoid any lines”.
“To give extra definition, use the Maybelline New York Master Liner ($19.99) and apply it to the inner rim of the eyes. Next, take the pencil up onto the outer corners of the eyes, make a little triangle and blend it with your fingers”.

“Finally to get that really bold look, apply a couple of coats of Maybelline New York’s Volum’ Express ‘The Falsies’ Flared Mascara ($23.99). The silicone brush will grab each and every lash for a uniformed finish”.
“Let your eyes be the feature and apply a nude coloured lip colour or nourishing balm like our Maybelline New York Baby Lips Lip Balm ($4.29 each)”.
